Most Succulents need at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. They prefer a nice window, or at least very close to one. We typically water the succulents once per week to ten days, allowing the soil to dry out a bit in-between waterings, up to a few days. We only use well-draining succulent/ cactus soil in our hanging planters. This helps with overwatering, however you can still overwater if you aren't careful. Soak the soil enough to get the roots wet, but not sopping wet. Ultimately, plants are living things, they'll tell you what makes them happy and what doesn't over time.
The short - Yes, they absolutely can! The long - these babies are made of waxed cotton, which is strong and will stand up to the elements. That being said, over time, the sun can fade the color of your hanger. And although the brass ring hanging the planter is said to be rust-resistant, the truth is it may rust or patina from the elements. These things can be a cool effect if you're into it. We have some hangers that have stayed out in the elements and have that weathered look now. Just be smart about your succulents, though... don't let them hang out in the cold, they hate that!
